How to Get Rid of Unwanted Hair
Unwanted hair has plagued both men and women for centuries, and has been a source of contention for most of us. There are many, effective ways to rid oneself of unwanted hair, although price, effectiveness and ease of use vary widely.
Shaving – Shaving is perhaps the easiest and least expensive means of getting rid of unwanted hair. Hair removal with a razor can be done in minutes and costs only a few dollars. The downside of shaving, however, is that is doesn’t last long (one to three days for most people), and can cause cuts and scrapes which are both uncomfortable and unsightly. It may also cause ingrown hairs, which can be painful.
Plucking – Plucking is a common form of hair removal for the face, and can last three to six weeks. It is also inexpensive and easy to do. Many individuals dislike plucking because it can be a painful form of hair removal, and many individuals experience redness, swelling or red bumps where they have plucked.
Depilatories – Depilatories are also an inexpensive form of hair removal, and can be done in the shower to avoid mess. The chemical in the depilatory is designed to dissolve the hair slightly below the skin’s surface, so using a depilatory can last a few days longer than shaving.
Many people find the use of depilatories to be both messy and inconvenient, and many people are offended by the strong scent of some depilatories.
Waxing – Waxing is a popular form of hair removal because it lasts for weeks. Most waxing is done with warm wax and waxing strips, although there are several types of cold-wax treatments, as well. Waxing can be done on any part of the body, although the pain of waxing often causes many individuals to pass up this form of hair removal.
Some individuals also choose laser hair removal or electrolysis, which are both expensive forms of hair removal that are performed by a professional.
