The foundation for any successful weight loss program is a good diet. There are no secrets or short-cuts in an effective weight loss diet. The reality is that dieting takes a strong commitment to losing weight and eating healthy.

A positive way to look at any weight loss diet is to think of it in terms of a healthy lifestyle change. Dieting in general is not very effective, but healthy diet changes certainly are.

If you have been unsuccessful in your dieting ventures, and you are looking for a great weight loss diet that can help you shed those unwanted pounds, then you need to begin changing your relationship with food and your negative feelings about dieting.

Diet Tips for Successful Weight Loss

You’ve likely heard it before, but any successful weight loss diet needs to start with plenty of water. Drink at least a glass before each meal, and a glass with each meal to fill you up and curb your hunger, and always keep a cold bottle of water at your desk at work. In addition to filling you up, water is beneficial to your organs, your digestive system and your skin, just for starters.

Eat breakfast. Many studies have shown that those individuals who eat breakfast are less likely to binge late in the day, and generally weigh less than those who skip breakfast. A healthy, low-fat breakfast that is high in fiber will fill you up, give you energy and curb your appetite until lunch.

Eat smaller portions. This may seem like a no-brainer, but many of us are unaware of our portion sizes and how they affect our diets. Pay close attention to the portion sizes on the labels of the food you are eating, and measure them out before each meal.

Limit artificially sweetened foods and beverages. Although many think that these low-calorie sweeteners are beneficial to their diet, in fact they have been shown to create more of a sweet tooth that leads to overeating.

Keep a food journal. The best way to track your daily eating habits is with a food journal. Recording every bite of food that goes into your mouth will make you more conscious of your eating habits and help you change them.

Do you Need a Dietician?

If you have tried unsuccessfully to maintain healthy eating habits, or if you have a medical condition that may affect your health or your diet, you may want to contact a registered dietician who can help you choose healthy foods and create a meal plan tailored specifically to your needs and individual circumstances.
